Storm Floris - Service Updates

An amber weather warning for wind - covering Orkney - has been issued for up to 23:00hrs tonight (4 August 2025).  It is expected that there will be significant impacts locally. 

This could include issues such as power cuts, transport disruption, hazardous driving conditions and structural damage, including fallen trees. 

The Orkney Local Emergency Co-ordination Group continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates throughout the day.  

Key areas of disruption to note at present are:

• • There will be no refuse collection in Westray today.
  • There is significant disruption to ferry transport services - please check in with your provider before travelling
  • Stagecoach public buses - the last X1 bus to St Margaret's Hope will leave Kirkwall Travel Centre at 16:12, the last bus from St Margaret's Hope to Kirkwall will be at 16:50. The X1 services (West) Kirkwall to/from Stromness should operate to timetable, however, may be cancelled at short notice depending on weather conditions. X10 Hatston Ferry bus service will operate to meet the ferry - currently subject to a delay of up to two hours.
  • Cathedral Graveyard Tours at St Magnus Cathedral are cancelled for today
